Our Story
Born From Love. Built Around Good Food and Familiar Faces.
The Companion Chef began with a simple belief: good food matters, and so does the person who shows up to make it.
Our story
It Should Feel Personal.
Because It Is.
The idea began with Alex watching his mother struggle to eat well after losing his father. Cooking for one no longer felt worthwhile. Grocery shopping became harder, frozen meals became more common, and some of the pleasure disappeared from mealtime.
Alex knew there had to be a better option — something more personal than a box at the door and more enjoyable than simply filling the refrigerator.
Food had already shaped much of Alex's life. He received formal culinary training in Europe, including training under a Michelin-starred chef, and has cooked professionally across three continents.
Selkie brings an equally important side of the story. She owned and operated an award-winning Asian Fusion restaurant in the United Kingdom for more than a decade, building deep experience in hospitality, restaurant operations and what it takes to make people feel genuinely welcome. She is also an attorney, bringing organization, attention to detail and professionalism to the business.
The Companion Chef brings those experiences together: professional cooking, genuine hospitality and the belief that meals prepared in your own home can make an ordinary week feel a little better.
Alex & Selkie
Meet Alex & Selkie
With us, you don't get assigned a chef. You get us. Alex and Selkie personally handle the service together — from planning and shopping through cooking, packaging and cleanup. You'll see the same two familiar faces from visit to visit. The people behind the business are the people who show up at your door.
Over time, we get to know what you enjoy, how you like things prepared, what you didn't love last week and what you'd like to try next. That continuity is what turns a weekly cooking visit into something more personal.

What we believe
What We Believe
Food Is Personal
Great food starts with listening. We cook around your tastes, appetite, memories, preferences and restrictions.
Quality Matters
We cook from scratch where it makes a meaningful difference — from freshly ground meats and house-made bratwurst to breads, pastries, soups and sauces.
Dignity Matters
Your home is your space. We treat every client and every kitchen with respect.
Familiarity Builds Trust
The same two owners return to your home, week after week.
Transparency Matters
Major fresh ingredients are charged at allocated cost without a grocery markup. A simple Pantry Contribution covers shared pantry staples and consumables that don't make sense to itemize individually.
With us, you don't get assigned a chef.
You get us.
The Companion Chef was inspired by the needs of older adults, and they remain at the heart of what we do. But the idea is broader than age: professional cooking, personal service and the pleasure of good food prepared in your own home.
